All submitted work will be edited for format, style, and grammar and to fit the space allotted as the editor sees fit. Writers and photographers waive the right to see their edited work before publication.

Trail Explorers

Trail Explorers are active members of the HTA community who believe in what we stand for. These folks take time to share their stories, photos, and experience with us and we thank them for that. Like us, Trail Explorers believe trail riders should always explore new horizons, and that you should never stop searching for the next adventure. We believe freedom is found on the trail!

Why become a Trail Explorer?

Not only will you be inspiring other riders, but being a Trail Explorer comes with some great perks. These members can receive free subscriptions to The Trail Journal, exclusive access to Trail Explorer products, shoutouts on our social media, emails, website, and The Trail Journal, and more!

How do I become a Trail Explorer?

Trail Explorers are selected based on a list of criteria, but primarily due to their engagement in our community. You must be an active member on our website (5+ comments/posts per month) and submit content at least 3 times per year. If your content is selected and you're an active member you'll receive a free subscription to the Trail Journal along with other perks!

We recommend a headshot, lifestyle photo, and short bio in your profile on our website to increase your chances of being selected, but they aren't required.

Do I need to be a writer?

No you don’t need to have degrees in writing or journalism, but you do have to have a passion for sharing your trail experiences, and knowledge (don't worry, we'll help you with the editing and can call and interview you for selected stories).

Do I need professional photos?

Make sure to email the photos and select the highest file size to use as an attachment. Photos should be at least 2 MB in size to look sharp in the magazine. Please note that submitting photos gives HTA and its subsidiaries the right to print, use and store the photos as they see fit for editorial or marketing purposes. The photographer maintains copyright and will be credited whenever possible in design format. You must be the photographer and own the rights of the photo to submit the work.
