Favorite Fall Photos
With the Westby’s

As a family, we love riding at Maplewood State Park near Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. Maplewood is known as a premier destination for fall leaf color viewing. It is one of our favorite places to ride with over 40 miles of well-groomed trails and various loops you can make. They also have a spacious primitive equestrian campground.

Our son Harrison (4 years old) is riding Peppy (22-year-old AQHA Mr. PepOWiz) along with his dad, Sam riding Sully (5-year-old North Dakota Badlands Horse).

Harrison’s favorite trail is Star Loop, aka the Bottom Loop, where you can ride to a bench for a picnic lunch on top of a large hill with a beautiful view.

Olivia Westby (7yrs old) is riding Lena (AQHA Weavers Lena Lou) Olivia loves the multiple lake access points along the trails.

It provides beautiful views, especially in the fall.

We also love to ride in the North Dakota Badlands. I, Heather Westby, took this photo in early September of this year.

Ivy (AQHA Ivy To Go) is on the left-hand side and Sully (North Dakota Badlands Horse) is on the right. Sully was born in the Theodore Roosevelt National Park in March of 2015 and was removed using low-stress gathering methods when he was 6 months old. We then purchased him completely unhandled. My husband Sam Westby did all the training on Sully and now as a 6-year-old, he has returned to the park 2 times for trail riding.

On this last trip, we returned for the North Dakota Badlands Horse Reunion Ride.
